Another previously untasted food is the Wild Fig.
I found these cuties at The Source Bulk Foods, and as you can see from the pic, they are rather small. Previously having found figs to be a bit bland when fresh, I almost didn’t purchase these. However I am a complete sucker for anything small and cute, so I naturally bought a decent amount. Thankfully, these Wild Figs were deliciously caramel flavoured. They were dry and nutty at the centre, where the seeds lived, but definitely tasting of caramel. I couldn’t help thinking I would heighten that flavour by making some simple little BALLS. Or truffles or spheres. Ha
I used the nut pulp left over from some milk I had made, so this is a great way to avoid wastage, if you also make your own milk. I’m pretty lazy, so this doesn’t happen all too frequently, but when it does happen I would throw myself in prison before I disposed of nut pulp.
- ¾ - 1 cup almond or cashew pulp
- 1 dried Wild Figs
- 2 TB molasses syrup
- 2 cups instant oats
- pinch of salt
- Blend together in a food processor.
- Pour the crumb onto a work surface, and divide into 10. Use your hands to firmly press the crumb into a ball. As your press firmly, it should easily begin to meld together. If your mix is too dry, you may need to re-process, with a little extra H2O.
- Once shaped, store in the fridge.
