This recipe is ugly-pretty (ex-ANTM addict). Tasty, but a blob to look at. This always happens when I cook for mum. I never know what to get my mum for Easter. She isn’t a huge chocolate fan (so I don’t know who I got it from!). But she does like the flavour mixes that sweet and salty provides. This is why I like to do naughty and simple stuff for mum. This recipe is super simple, from the website mamasaywhat. There are a mass of positive comments under the recipe, save for people that
haven’t cooked it properly had trouble with the caramel being too gooey. I’ve changed that aspect in my instructions.
- 2 cups pretzels
- 1/3 cup Nuttelex
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2/3 cup dark chocolate
- In a small pot, bring the butter and brown sugar to a boil. Avoid stirring the caramel, and allow it to brown nicely. It should thicken, too. Allow to cook on a simmer until the caramel begins to become very thick. To test if it’s ready, drop a smidge on a frozen plate and see if it solidifies!
- Line a baking tray with baking paper. Layer the pretzels to cover the base of the tray, keeping them close together. Pour the caramel over the top of the pretzels.
- Melt the chocolate in the microwave or in a bain-marie. Once liquefied, pour over the caramel. You may need to use a knife to smooth it evenly over the top. Sprinkle with a little salt.
- Move the mix to the freezer. It tastes best when straight out of the freezer!
