Amaranth and Quinoa are great. Claimed as being of magical properties, the Mayans and Aztecs worshipped these seeds, until the Spanish
banned them from their religious rituals. Here’s
- Quinoa – Firstly, it’s pronounced ‘kin-WAH’. Secondly, it contains more protein per gram then ANY meat, with all 9 of those essential amino acids. Thirdly: it bunches in Magnesium (chocolate craving assistant!), fiber and calcium.
- Amaranth – This is my favourite. I actually cook 1/4 cup of this with my porridge every morning. Apparently it slows the growth of grey hair? India even includes this in many medicinal cures. High protein, amino acids, good for weight-loss… This site lists medical journals that show positive results relating to cancer-prevention, anti-inflammation, cardiovascular disease reduction and that it’s awesome for children.
Flaxseed/Linseed – these guys are high in fibre, SO MUCH so that you should actually start off only eating a little bit at first… High Omega-3, bulk anti-oxidants and they are high in most of the B vitamins, magnesium, and manganese.
Hemp seeds – not as in the drug, but from a similar plant strain. In the same way that you can eat poppy seeds without being considered an opiate user. Hemp can provide you with a complete protein, and a balanced ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids. It also contains many B vitamins, vitamins A, D and E, calcium, sodium, iron and dietary fiber.
Chia Seeds – is 20% Omega (8x the Omega 3 of Salmon), 20% protein, 4x the antioxidants of blueberries, 5x calcium of milk, 7x Vitamin C found in oranges, 3x the iron in Spinach, 2x potassium in bananas….oh my word?
